As the heading states - I just upgraded a VM running Windows 2008 Server R2. We just performed a upgrade on the CPU quantity last night as it has an application that was putting 98% usage on the existing CPUs in it.
The Host:
Running VMware vSphere ESXi 4.1.u3 - Enterprise Plus
CPU Cores: 16 CPUs x 2.393 GHz
Processor Type: Quad-Core AMD Opteron (tm) Processor 8378
Processor Sockets: 4
Cores per Socket: 4
Logical Processors: 16
Hyperthreading: Inactive
The VM was running the following:
2008 Server R2 64-bit
VMware Version: 7
CPU: 4vCPU
RAM: 8GB
We then upgraded it gradually to the following:
CPU: 8vCPU
RAM: 16GB
It is now running and it is running smoothly, but the CPU Performance was constantly at 98% and now it fluxuates between 56-100%.
I'm not sure if this is right or if we need to do something in addition on to what we already did?? It is not in a Resource Pool and this VM has been running on this Host for almost 2 years.
Is there anything additional to do or should this be the expected result?
Are there any additional tools or diagnostics we should be testing/utilizing to check the performance of the VM?
