Can't connect to SQL Server on Win7 Host from WinXP Guest

I finally have a great use for the Workstation license that I've upgraded over the years since 3.0 in 2001 to the copy of 7.1 that I now run.

The SSD drive on my Win XP laptop crashed last weekend and I won't get it back for 2 weeks. So I've decided to finally migrate to a Win 7 64 machine that I've been ignoring because it doesn't support Visual Basic 6.0. I have a number of legacy projects in VB 6.0 that require periodic maintenance. I need to be able to run them in debug mode from Microsoft Access.

So the host is Windows 7 64 on a home network with an instance of SQL Server 2008 using Windows Authentication only. The VMWare Workstation 7.1 guest is Windows XP into which I will load VB 6.0 and Microsoft Access. I've been unsuccessful so far creating an ODBC connections back to the SQL Server instance. Can anyone help with this?
